Pacific Blue Cross rolls out new pharmacy agreement

As part of ongoing efforts to improve drug plan sustainability for Members and Plan Sponsors, Pacific Blue Cross has updated its Pharmacy Agreement.

The Agreement contains new language and requirements on markups, billing practices and Member privacy and applies to all pharmacies in British Columbia. Pacific Blue Cross has also strengthened pharmacy audit processes, which are outlined in the new agreement.

The Agreement is the product of 4 years of consultation with the BC Pharmacy Association (BCPhA) and offers additional clarity for pharmacies on Pacific Blue Cross policies and business practices. Says Anar Dossa, Pacific Blue Cross Director of Pharmacy Services, “This Agreement is a win-win for the pharmacy community and our organization. It provides more drug cost certainty and affordability for our Members and Plan Sponsors, while still enabling BC pharmacies to make healthy profits.”

BCPhA has endorsed the Agreement, which will come into effect on January 1, 2018. Pacific Blue Cross will update its Pharmacy Reference Guide to reflect the changes.

Pharmacies are invited to visit Provider Resources at pac.bluecross.ca for Frequently Asked Questions about the Agreement.
