Pacific Blue Cross honoured with YWCA Innovative Workplace Award

The YWCA Women of Distinction Awards presented Pacific Blue Cross with the Innovative Workplace award at its annual gala on June 3. The event highlights women and workplaces whose achievements contribute to the well-being and future of the community, as well as raises funds for programs and services that help improve the lives of more than 55,000 people each year across Metro Vancouver.

“We are honoured to receive this prestigious award from YWCA Metro Vancouver,” says Jean Wong, Vice President of Human Resources at Pacific Blue Cross. “Our culture is built around making a difference at work and in the community, by encouraging employees to achieve their wellness, education and career goals.”

The Innovative Workplace award recognizes a business or organization that has implemented a supportive workplace culture and responds to the challenges faced by women in balancing the needs of family, community and career.

We were selected out of many deserving candidates thanks to our long history of encouraging a healthy work-life balance, by being among the first in B.C. during the 1970s to introduce innovations like flex-time, a 35-hour work week and employee and family assistance programs.

Since those early days, we have gone on to offer a health and wellness program, leadership training programs, an annual $1,000 education fund for each employee and a focus on promoting from within the organization. We also have a strong female-dominated leadership team.
