Travel insurance for pre-existing conditions

Did you know that any health concern that existed prior to the start of your travel policy could be considered pre-existing if it causes issues on your trip?

Many of us have some kind of pre-existing condition, like asthma, diabetes or even a recent bout of COVID or the flu where the condition is manageable, and we may even have forgotten it happened.

The good news is travel coverage can still be available for pre-existing health conditions.

One of the ways we provide coverage is with a stability period. Under certain circumstances, depending on your age and the coverage you’ve chosen, your health issues won’t affect coverage if they happened longer than 180 days before your departure date.

You can check our Travel Contract for additional information on the stability periods that apply to you.

Optional Pre-Existing Condition Benefit

Our Optional Pre-Existing Condition Benefit ensures more British Columbians can travel confidently by receiving the coverage they want for peace of mind travels.

With the Optional Pre-Existing Condition Benefit, your travel coverage will cover your claims that are related to your recent health issues as long as your pre-existing condition is stable for 7 days prior to your departure date. It’s a fantastic option for individuals who have pre-existing conditions that would not qualify for coverage under our standard travel policy.

You can purchase this optional benefit on our website for both our Annual and Single Trip Travel Medical Plans.

If you have a pre-existing condition and are curious about your coverage, you should speak to a representative or refer to our Travel Contract for more information.
