Direct Billing for Mental Health Providers in BC Starting July 11
Friday, Jul 11, 2025We are excited to announce that effective July 11, 2025, registered Clinical Counsellors in British Columbia will be able to submit claims directly to Pacific Blue Cross.
We understand that mental health support is essential to the health and wellbeing of British Columbians. That’s why we’re committed to removing as many barriers to access as possible, so members can get the care they need, when they need it.
We’re confident that this update will significantly improve access to mental health benefits, by eliminating out-of-pocket expenses for members, while at the same time streamlining the administrative process for busy practices. Direct billing also helps avoid credit card fees that can be incurred by providers when clients pay for their appointments.
Members will be able to use our Insta-Claim provider search tool to find mental health providers near them who are registered for direct billing.
Please be advised that to be eligible for direct billing, Clinical Counsellors must hold full and active membership with one of the following professional associations:
- BC Association of Clinical Counsellors (BCACC)
- Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (CCPA)
- Canadian Professional Counsellors Association (CPCA)
- Association of Cooperative Counselling Therapists of Canada (ACCT)
How to register for direct billing
Register for a PROVIDERnet account in a few short steps to enable direct billing with Pacific Blue Cross for your practice:
- Visit pac.bluecross.ca/ProviderResource#MentalHealth
- Select Registration/Acct Mgmt, then click Register for a NEW account with Pacific Blue Cross. Complete the registration form. For support, read our Quick Start Guide for help, or watch our video tutorial.
- Our team will validate your application and send you an email confirming approval.
- Once approved, you’ll be prompted to log in and activate your PROVIDERnet account.
- After activation, you must set up direct deposit – be sure to sign in to your administrator account rather than your practitioner account for this. Watch our direct deposit video tutorial for help getting started.
If you are a Clinical Counsellor already registered for a PROVIDERnet account and submit mental health claims for the First Nations Health Authority (FNHA) clients, no additional registration is required. You will be able to submit claims for other eligible Pacific Blue Cross plan members using the same account. See our Mental Health Provider FAQ linked below for details on how to submit claims for non-FNHA clients.
