Pharmacy - New dispensing fee limits for Municipal Pension Plan

Wednesday, Nov 4, 2020

Dispensing fees for drugs included on a new Maintenance Drug list will be limited to five per year

The Municipal Pension Plan will be introducing new dispensing fee limits to its Retiree Benefits Plan (policy 88000) effective January 1, 2021. This change will impact more than 6,150 plan members across the province.

The new limits will be applied to defined sets of drugs used to manage chronic conditions (the Maintenance Drugs list ). Dispensing fees for solid-oral drugs (tablets and capsules) included on the Maintenance Drugs list will be limited to five per year. All other solid-oral drugs used to treat chronic conditions will be limited to 13 dispensing fees per calendar year.

The limits will only apply if the patient is taking a stable dose of the impacted medication. They will not apply if the dosage levels of the drug being taken is changing or the drug is being used to manage acute or self-limiting conditions.

We have prepared detailed information about these changes, including some frequently asked questions you may have.

Impacted plan members will be notified by mail in November. We are encouraging our members to discuss this change with their pharmacist to ensure the smoothest possible transition on January 1, 2021.

Please note: These changes do not apply across all Pacific Blue Cross plans.
