Self Employed workers and Small businesses are a growing segment of the British Columbia economy who are driven by an increasing number of self-employed and small business owners choosing to open local businesses rather than work for national or global organizations. Vancity has a significant presence in the small business community with approximately 20,000 self-employed members (individuals), 10,000 small business members (2-3 people) and approximately 10,000 small business members. In addition to the financial uncertainties all small business owners must overcome, Vancity members are feeling the effects of affordability issues in the Lower Mainland and Southern Vancouver Island. With an increasing demand for small business financial solutions and advice, Vancity has identified a significant opportunity to grow with impact by delivering a more comprehensive suite of solutions to meet the specific needs of self-employed and small businesses in their local communities.
