The Pacific Blue Cross Health Foundation has partnered with the Canadian Cancer Society in BC and Yukon to fund its provincial Wig Bank program.

The Foundation will provide $150,000 to be gifted over five years to help ensure people with cancer in communities across the province continue to have access to wigs as well as a welcoming and supportive environment to try on wigs and gain back their confidence during cancer treatment.

The Canadian Cancer Society operates wig banks in its four BC lodges (Vancouver, Victoria, Kelowna and Prince George) and runs a variety of smaller wig banks at other community locations around the province. Through these banks, the Society helps approximately 2,000 women annually. The main Wig Bank located at the Jean C. Barber Lodge in Vancouver has been renamed the Pacific Blue Cross Wig Bank.

“We know the impact of hair loss on a person’s identity and confidence can be overwhelming,” says Sandra Krueckl, Vice President, Cancer Control, Canadian Cancer Society, BC and Yukon. “Wig banks help to restore a woman’s dignity and self-esteem while undergoing the tremendous hardship of cancer. We are genuinely grateful to Pacific Blue Cross for its amazing support of our program and believe it will make a significant impact for people facing cancer.”

Says Pacific Blue Cross Health Foundation board chair Richard Taylor, “Volunteer programs like the Wig Bank help to lift the wellbeing of so many British Columbians at a very vulnerable time in their lives,” “We’re honoured to be associated with this very special program, which reaches into many communities across the province.”
