Pacific Blue Cross held a cheque presentation at their Burnaby head office to celebrate the results of The Children’s Wish Foundation of Canada’s #DoTheLivi campaign. Pacific Blue Cross president and CEO, Jan K. Grude, presented $10,000 on behalf of the organization to the BC & Yukon Chapter of Children’s Wish.

The social media campaign aimed to grant the wish of a young girl, named Olivia, to be famous. The public was encouraged to share videos of them doing “the Livi”, a dance move which was created with the help of Canadian choreographer, Blake McGrath. The campaign generated significant attention on social media sites, with the #DoTheLivi YouTube video for the global campaign gathering more than 50,000 views. Pacific Blue Cross committed to donating $1 for each like or share of their social media post, up to $10,000, which would go towards granting a travel wish to a child.
“We were pleasantly surprised that our goal was reached within the first two months of the campaign,” says Jennifer Petersen, BC & Yukon Chapter Director for Children’s Wish, “Thanks to the support from Pacific Blue Cross, we were able to achieve over 47,000 likes, shares and views on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and YouTube in just two months.”

For the past 27 years, the Canadian Association of Blue Cross Plans has provided free travel insurance to help Children’s Wish fulfill travel wishes for children whose conditions might make them ineligible for coverage.

“The average cost of a travel wish for a Wish Child and their family is $10,000,” says Grude, who is also volunteer chair of the BC & Yukon Chapter of Children’s Wish. “Olivia’s wish was to be famous. With the support this campaign has generated in BC and across Canada, not only has she achieved her dream, but she has helped other children to achieve theirs as well.”
All donations from the #DoTheLivi campaign will support The Children’s Wish Foundation of Canada’s mission of making a difference in the lives of children who have been diagnosed with life-threatening illnesses.
