Municipal Retiree Benefit Trust

Changes to how MRBT members living outside BC will claim post-retirement group benefits

Monday, Aug 22, 2022

We are announcing some exciting changes to how you make claims through your group benefits plan. Effective September 6, 2022, Pacific Blue Cross is transitioning all policies and plan members that are currently using the national (Nexus) platform for administering claims and pre-determinations to TELUS AdjudiCare.

TELUS AdjudiCare offers one of the largest national networks of dental, pharmacy, and health providers in Canada, which means Pacific Blue Cross plan members can live anywhere in the country and receive a consistent and high level of claims service. Plus, this new platform offers real-time adjudication of most claims that are submitted online, shortening the turnaround time for claims processing from the current five days to next business day.

What does this mean for you

  • No change in your benefit plan.
  • New Member ID card. A new My PBC Benefits/TELUS Assure member card will be mailed to you mid-August. On and after September 6th, the numbers on this card must be used when you or your dependents go to the pharmacist, dentist, or paramedical practitioner (i.e. optometrist, massage therapist, chiropractor or physiotherapist) as well as when you’re submitting a claim for reimbursement.
  • My PBC Benefits. You will use a new online portal and/or mobile app to submit claims, view your benefit coverage and claims history, and verify balances remaining for your benefits. You will also find a digital ID card, Explanation of Benefits statements for processed claims, as well as documents and forms associated with your benefits plan. These tools will be available on September 5th and links will be provided when you receive your new ID card.
  • Online claims: If you wish to claim using the online portal or mobile app you will be required to provide your banking information so that payment can be made by direct deposit. If you have direct deposit set up to receive claims payments in Nexus, you will need to register for an account in the My PBC Benefits portal and re-enter your banking information.
  • Personal information. All of your information, including your claims history, will be transferred from the Nexus system to TELUS AdjudiCare before September 6th with the exception of your banking information.
  • A new way to reach us. If you have questions or concerns about your benefits or claims, you’ll have new phone numbers to talk directly to Pacific Blue Cross call centre staff. This information will be on your new ID cards and available on September 5th.

To streamline the transition, we are asking that you submit any outstanding claims you are holding to Nexus before September 6th.
