PharmaCare and your Blue Cross drug plan

Integrating PharmaCare with your Blue Cross drug plan

While many drugs are eligible for funding from PharmaCare, there are some drugs that require "Special Authority" from PharmaCare. These drugs require your doctor to fill out a form to apply for coverage. A full list of eligible special authority drugs is available on the PharmaCare website.

How to access PharmaCare's special authority coverage

Your Blue Cross claims statement and your pharmacist (if your plan includes a BLUEnet pay direct drug card) will let you know when a drug you have been prescribed and claimed is eligible for coverage under PharmaCare's Special Authority program.

If you receive this message, speak with your physician to determine whether the drug you require may be eligible for Special Authority. If so, ask your physician to apply on your behalf.

Before your doctor can apply for this funding on your behalf, you must be registered with PharmaCare. If PharmaCare approves this application for coverage, they will notify your physician and he/she is responsible for contacting you and providing you with a copy of PharmaCare's decision document.

Special Authority must be in place before you purchase a drug. Coverage cannot be provided retroactively. It's important that you apply as soon as possible. We've created an easy to use, step-by-step guide to help you.
