Our Guiding Principles

The purpose in having principles is to create ethical guidelines for our efforts. When making decisions related to social responsibility, we must continue to ask ourselves if our actions and plans adhere to these 5 principles. If the answer is yes, we can be confident that we are achieving our goals of making a meaningful difference in British Columbia.

  1. We look beyond what we want to offer; we must look at what is needed: It's not enough to focus only on our resources. To remain relevant to our stakeholders, we look for areas where our resources combine with community needs to create a win-win.
  2. It's not just about dollars; it's about making a difference: We recognize our limitations when it comes to making only cash donations. We aim to connect a non-financial support to all of our areas of focus. Sometimes, non-financial contributions are where we can really make a difference.
  3. We coordinate our efforts internally and allocate resources appropriately: Coordinating our efforts across committees and departments is the only way we can truly have an impact. We allocate sufficient resources to ensure that social responsibility activities can be effectively carried out.
  4. It's not just about looking good to our stakeholders: Social responsibility offers a real chance to achieve our business objectives while improving the employee experience and improving the larger environment in which we operate. Our goal is to affect change.
  5. We set realistic and measurable goals: Each of the three areas represents an opportunity for mutual benefit between our organization and the community at large, but we approach achieving these objectives with caution and set realistic short and long-term goals.
